MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men's and women's track and field teams opened up their 2019 season on Saturday morning at the Ansin Sports Complex, hosting the first of two home meets this season at the NSU Invitational, featuring eight first-place finishes and 25 more performances producing second or third-place marks.
RUNNING EVENTS
- Making her NSU debut, Pittsburgh graduate transfer Melanic Vlasic opened the day for the Sharks on a win, topping the field in the 5,000m with a time of 18:42.53.
- Lakewood, Wash. freshman Charissa Bacon earned the win in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.40.

RELAY EVENTS
- The NSU men's relay squads earned wins in both events of the meet. The 4x100m squad of junior Jared Robinson, junior transfer Ian Nieves, freshman Zaheem Anderson and senior Eric Moate coming in at 42.05. The 4x400m team of Nieves, Robinson, freshman Ritchey Laguerre and freshman Juan Parra finished in 3:30.41.
FIELD EVENTS
- Field events were the strongest component for NSU in the season opener, kicked off by senior Kamaria Johnson in the women's hammer throw at 40.76m (133-9 ft.). Coming to NSU originally from Little Rock, Ark., Johnson also tossed 11.57m (37-11.5 ft.) to win the shot put.
- In the men's hammer, freshman Spencer Ochko reached 23.63 (77-6 ft.). The Carbondale, Colo. Native also topped the discus at 37.12m (121-9 ft.).
- The Sharks doubled up in the pole vault, with Smithtown, N.Y. senior Brianna Law reached a height of 3.52m (11-6 ft.) while Kyle Forsythe reached 4.13m (13-6.5 ft.).
