AUGUSTA, Ga.  - For the first time in the 2019 season, a Nova Southeastern track and field athlete has received conference weekly honors, as officials from the Peach Belt Conference have selected Timothy Young as Peach Belt Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the USF Bulls Invite over the weekend in Tampa.

It is the first honor in Young's career and the first for Nova Southeastern this season for either team.

For the second meet in a row for the NSU freshman, Young (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmers High School for Boys) set the Nova Southeastern school record in the long jump, extending his mark to 6.96m (22-10) last Friday at the Bulls Invitational, finishing seventh among collegiate performers mixed between NCAA Division I and Division II in the field. His record-breaking leap moves him up to second among all Peach Belt Performers and 25th nationally.

Young also showed his skills in the sprints, as the second leg of NSU's 4x100m relay (along with Ian Nieves, Zaheem Anderson and Eric Moate) that finished second behind only Rutgers and reached 41.07 to earn an NCAA provisional qualification for the National Championships in May in Kingsville, Texas. The Sharks relay also moved up to first in the Peach Belt with their weekend performance, netting them a No. 5 national ranking.

Young and the Sharks will be back in action this week, traveling to the northern part of Florida's Atlantic shore with an appearance at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic, March 29-30 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
