Strong Performances for the Sharks at the UM Hurricane Alumni Invite

Kenyon set another record, while Moate tacked on another NCAA bid

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern track and field squad wrapped its final meet before championship season with a new NCAA qualifier, a new conference record and solid all-around performances on Friday and Saturday at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Miami's campus at Cobb Stadium.

FIELD EVENTS
  • Senior Maddy Kenyon again set the school and Peach Belt Conference record in the heptathlon, finishing second behind Miami's Michelle Atherley and defeating the rest of an otherwise Division I field with 4,990 points. Atherley was the Division I Indoor national champion earlier this year.
  • For her efforts in the heptathlon, Kenyon dashed her 100m hurdles personal best by .27 seconds with a fourth-place 14.94. She also outdistanced her PR in the shot put by .23m with a fourth-place 10.54m (34-07.0), edged out her 200m time at 25.15 in third place, reached a wind-aided personal best of 5.64 (18-06.0) in the long jump to finish second and clipped time off her 800m at 2:17.04 to finish second.
  • Already an NCAA Championships provisional qualifier, Kenyon leads the Southeast Region and remains in the highest national tier – ranking seventh.
  • Finishing third overall, senior Briana Law reached 3.45m (11-03.75) in the pole vault.
RUNNING EVENTS
  • Senior Eric Moate edged within .04 of his own school record, but finished at a season-best 10.48 seconds in the 100m to earn his second NCAA provisional qualification and finish 11th overall – fifth among collegiate performers.
  • Freshman Daniel Duffy notched a new personal best in the 1,500m with a fifth-place time of 4:04.46.
RELAY EVENTS
  • Moate also ran anchor on the men's 4x100m relay – in tandem with Ian Nieves, Timothy Young and Zaheem Anderson, improving their existing NCAA-qualifying time to 40.94 to finish sixth overall and fourth among collegiate relays.
Up Next: Championship season begins for the Sharks with the Peach Belt Championships in Daytona Beach on the campus of Embry-Riddle, next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 18-20.
