LEXINGTON, Ky. – In conjunction with the United State Marine Corps (USMC), the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has officially announced the 1,313 teams that have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season, with head coach Brian Rosen and Nova Southeastern among the highly-regarded list.

This year's total tops last year's record by almost 200 teams, as 232 programs received Team Academic honors for the very first time in 2020.

NSU was also recognized for its efforts during the 2018-19 campaign.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

"I am so proud of our teams accomplishments on the court, but even more so with what they have done in the classroom," said Rosen, who lifted the Sharks to a 14-win turnaround in his first season with the program in 2019. "It was a record-breaking season all around, but having the highest GPA amongst all (NSU) teams in the fall and setting the program-record for highest team GPA for both a semester, as well as annually, was my favorite part of this year."

This past season, Rosen and the NSU volleyball squad posted its first 20-win mark since 2008, including 12 Sunshine State Conference victories – the most in program history. NSU saw multiple postseason honors for Alex Boone and Ally Ford, who became the Sharks' first All-Americans since 2017, while also earning All-South Region and All-SSC accolades. Academically, the volleyball team led the NSU athletic department on the women's side with a 3.59 fall semester team GPA, before registering a program-high 3.64 winter semester team GPA. Their 3.61 annual GPA was also a program-high.
