HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Sharks wasted no time at all getting on the board, when, in just the 8th minute, Matty Cornish accepted a pass from Aleks Berg at the top of the box and simply froze the Eagles' goalkeeper with his shot into the top right corner of the net.
- The Eagles had a few chances to tie it up early, with three shots between the 16th and 22nd minutes, but none were on target, and as it turned out, the stiff Sharks defense didn't even allow a single shot attempt for the entire rest of the game's final 68 minutes.
- Nonetheless, the Sharks kept attacking. Cornish had his second attempt saved at the 23-minute mark, and Henrik Berg sent a couple tries wide shortly thereafter. Finally, with less than three minutes to go before halftime, Floris van Nijnanten kicked the ball over his head to Michael Lawrence, who was just about 10 yards in front of the net and sent it past the diving keeper into the bottom right corner.
- The Sharks took nine more shots in the second half, three of which were stopped by the keeper.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
- The Sharks dominated the time of possession, with a 17-3 shot advantage. In total, they were responsible for the final 15 shots of the match.
- Cornish reached the 20-point plateau with his early score, his eighth of the season to go along with four assists. He is one of just six players in the SSC to reach that mark this season.
- Alberto Ciroi was credited with his third solo shutout of the season and his first in SSC play.
- Milos Christoforou led the team with four shots, two of which were on target, and was one of just two Sharks on the pitch for all 90 minutes, along with Odei Arrieta.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- This is the first time in the program's NCAA era that the Sharks have swept their road conference schedule, and just the third time since 2004 they won five or more road games in a season. They were 5-2 (4-1 SSC) in 2018 and 7-1-1 (2-1-1 SSC) in 2004, during which they won their first four road games of the year in a non-conference tour of the United States, with wins in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Arkansas, making this current run also the longest road winning streak since making the move up from the NAIA ranks.
- The last time the Sharks didn't allow a single shot on goal was versus Ave Maria on Sept. 6, 2018, and the last time on the road was Sept. 7, 2014, at North Georgia. It is the only such occurrence in SSC action in the last 10 years. It also marks the fewest total shots allowed in an SSC match during the same time span.
