HOW IT HAPPENED
- Riding the wave of Thursday's come-from-behind, semifinal win over Palm Beach Atlantic, the Sharks quieted the Tampa crowd early and often, using a Sar-Sar finish on an Aleks Berg assist to climb in front 1-0 right away in the fourth minute.
- With the Spartans in search of some momentum of their own, Cornish thwarted that idea in the 19th minute, burying a right-footed strike past SSC Defensive Player of the Year, Adam Forster, to double the lead.
- Nearing the halftime break in the 44th minute, NSU kept its foot on the gas, as Nick Brisevac played a cross from the right wing to Henrik Berg, who hit a perfect one-touch strike for his third goal of the season.
- Leading 3-0 out of the break, the Sharks showed no signs of slowing down. Sparked by the creation of Brisevac once again, the NSU midfielder found Michael Lawrence for NSU's fourth score through 47:52.
- The goal count might've been even greater had NSU not failed to convert a handful of additional chances. Although Tampa produced a number of their own as well, the Sharks had keeper Alberto Ciroi on their side, who finished with a season-high eight saves, including seven in the second half.
- The clean sheet for NSU vanished after a Tampa penalty kick goal in the 90th minute. However, the celebration was already on, as the Sharks clinched the tourney title and extended their current unbeaten streak to nine games.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- In knocking off Tampa on Sunday, along with its semifinal win at Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday, NSU beat two Top-10 nationally-ranked programs in a span of four days.
- A. Berg, H. Berg, Ciroi, Cornish, Sar-Sar and Floris Van Nijnanten were all named to the SSC All-Tournament Team following the match.
- NSU outscored its opponents by a combined 9-2 margin in the SSC Tournament.
STATS OF THE NIGHT
- The Sharks scored three goals on their four total shots in the first half.
