HOW IT HAPPENED:
1
st Half | NSU came out firing on all cylinders, grabbing a quick 10-0 lead less than two minutes in after Smith drilled a transition three-pointer.
Eddie Puisis picked up the Sharks' sixth forced turnover in a little over four minutes, capitalizing with a trey to keep NSU well in front, 15-6. Puisis' second of four triples on the night stretched the margin to 22-9 at the 14:40 mark before a lob from Smith to Sunahara for an alley-oop later pushed the Sharks ahead 39-16, forcing the Lions to take timeout. Another Sunahara dunk maintained a 22-point cushion for NSU, yet a sloppy stretch that featured four consecutive Sharks' turnovers opened the door for Georgian Court, who eventually pulled all the way back to within 10 with 47.2 seconds remaining in the half. After leading by as many as 24 points, NSU entered the locker on top just 54-44.
2
nd Half | The Lions narrowed the gap to eight just moments into the second half until a
Kobe Rodgers steal led to an easy two for Puisis that doubled the margin back out to 71-55 with 14:42 left. Georgian Court once again climbed to within 10 thanks to back-to-back three's, but that would be as close as the Lions got the rest of the way, as the flood gates soon opened. Kick-started by a Puisis three, the Sharks rattled off an incredible 30-2 run over a span of 6:39. During the stretch, NSU made 13-of-14 attempts from the field, while holding the Lions to 1-of-7 to go along with eight turnovers. Of those 30 points,
Sekou Sylla registered 12 of them. It was his steal, though, that resulted in a Puisis lay-up that extended the advantage to 82-61. A driving dunk by
Shane Hunter continued the momentum when, moments later, he was the recipient of a nifty, behind-the-back drop-off from Rodgers that ended with another one-handed dunk. A Sylla lay-up with 6:26 to play pushed the Sharks past the century mark, as head coach
Jim Crutchfield had all but seen enough from his usual rotation.
