Sharks go Wire-to-Wire to Beat Lions

Six Sharks Score in Double Figures

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's Basketball team improved to 6-0 on the 2021-22 season with a dominant, wire-to-wire, 125-90 victory over the Lions of Florida Memorial. The Sharks 35-point win is their largest of the season. Six players for NSU scored in double-digits, with Sekou Sylla leading the way with a game-high 24 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

1ST HALF – RJ Sunahara bookended a 10-0 run, over the first 2:11 of the game for Nova Southeastern, as the Sharks began the game with the early momentum. Lukas Speidel put NSU in front 15-4 with a three-pointer. Midway through the first half, the Lions cut the NSU advantage to 26-25 but the Sharks responded with an 8-0, capped off by a Sekou Sylla fastbreak lay-up. A three-pointer from Mike Moore extended the NSU lead to 37-27 with less than eight minutes remaining. Kaine McColley also netted a three-pointer, putting Nova Southeastern in front 50-29. The Sharks went into halftime leading 67-37.  

2ND HALF – Nick Smith assisted Sunahara on a dunk, putting NSU in front 72-37 over FMU. Moore gave Nova Southeastern an 82-55 advantage over Florida Memorial. Near the halfway point of the second half, Sunahara sank back-to-back free throws as the Sharks lead once again passed 30-points, leading 93-62. Jonathan Pierre recorded a three-pointer, putting Nova Southeastern over the 100-point plateau, leading 102-66. Pierre gave NSU a 40-point lead, adding to his total with a lay-up. The Sharks sealed their sixth consecutive win, defeating Florida Memorial 125-90 from the Rick Case Arena.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 

  • Six Sharks, Sylla/24; Sunahara/18, Smith/17, Moore/14, Rogers/Sala - 11, recorded double-digit points.  

  • NSU forced 32 turnovers for the third straight game.
