HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Outside of a shot by Chama Silva just 2:04 into the match, and a scoring chance for Olivia Graham in the 29th minute, the NSU offense didn't muster many opportunities in the first half.
  • Despite the offensive struggles, though, Sharks keeper Shannon Hearty collected six saves in the opening 45 minutes alone to keep things deadlocked at 0-0 heading into intermission.
  • However, the Buccaneers needed only 1:43 after halftime to break the tie, as Emma Lillback assisted Tash Hudson on the game's lone goal.
  • The Sharks threatened in the 70th minute, yet consecutive shot attempts by Lily Truong and Dejah Holman were both turned away.
  • Still in search of the equalizer, NSU produced its best chance down the stretch in the 84th minute when Emma Brown took one touch following a cross from the right wing before drilling a shot towards the right corner of the goal. At the last moment, though, Barry's Maddie Hart-Pomerantz made a spectacular, sprawling save to her left to preserve the eventual victory for the Bucs.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Wednesday's contest did not count as a Sunshine State Conference matchup. Both sides will face each other in SSC play in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 20.
  • Tonight's shutout marked the first time the Sharks had been held scoreless in a regular season contest since Oct. 23, 2019 – also against Barry.
STATS OF THE NIGHT:
  • Hearty set a new career high with eight saves in the effort.
  • After being held to just three shots in the first half, NSU tallied seven over the final 45 minutes.
UP NEXT:
NSU will have a full week to prepare for its SSC opener next Wednesday when it heads to Baca Raton to take on Lynn. The two teams tied 1-1 in the season's first meeting back on Sept. 3.
