Worth the Wait; Sharks Open 2021 Season with Four-Set Win against Pittsburg State

Price leads Sharks to Opening Night Victory

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks, at long last, returned to the court and earned a season-opening win over the Pittsburg State Gorillas in the night-cap of day one of the NSU Volleyball Shark Invitational presented by Courtyard Marriot. Head Coach Brian Rosen led the Sharks to the team's first victory in 650 days and extended the winning to streak to seven-games (dating back to Nov. 5, 2019).

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Sharks and Gorillas battled back-and-forth in the first set, as the teams were tied 14-14. 
  • Madison Cook added a kill, putting NSU ahead 16-14, and forcing the Gorillas to use a timeout. 
  • Cook also tallied three service aces in the closing points of the set to guide NSU to the first set victory, 25-18. 
  • Elizabeth Price recorded seven kills in the first set for NSU.  
  • Trailing 8-10 in the second set, NSU rallied for four consecutive points as PSU called a timeout following kills from Julia Bernadares and Brittany Landrum
  • Alex Psoma added a service ace to give Nova Southeastern a 23-20 lead late in the second set.  
  • Price closed out the second set and secured a 26-24 set two win for the Sharks. 
  • Nova Southeastern dropped the third set 21-25 against PSU.  
  • The Sharks rushed out to a 14-9 lead against the Gorillas in the fourth set, with Cambry Pope notching three kills in the set. 
  • NSU closed out the first victory of the season 25-14 over the Gorillas in the fourth set.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Sharks extended their winning streak to seven games, which adds to the longest win streak since 2015. 
  • Tonight's match-up was the first in program history for the Sharks against the Gorillas.

The Sharks have a quick turnaround and will play two matches on Sat., Sept. 4, from the Rick Case Arena beginning at 12 p.m. NSU takes on Quincy (IL.) in the early afternoon and Stonehill (MA.) to conclude the NSU Volleyball Shark Invitational presented by Courtyard Marriot.
