Sharks Outlast Eagles, Remain Undefeated

NSU sets single-season winning streak record

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern Volleyball outlasted Sunshine State Conference rival, Embry-Riddle in a battle of unbeaten teams, as the Sharks won in five-sets from the Rick Case Arena on Thursday night. NSU has now set a program-record for single-season win streak (12) and has tied the program-record for consecutive wins (18).

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The first-set of the match set the tone for the evening, as both teams traded points and were tied 10-10. 
  • Marianna Fiocco and Elizabeth Price tallied back-to-back kills, giving the Sharks a 12-10 lead. 
  • Price then kickstarted a 4-0 run for NSU, extending the Nova Southeastern lead to 16-11. 
  • Later in the first-set, a second 4-0 rally for the Sharks gave NSU a 23-16 advantage over the Eagles. 
  • NSU sealed the set victory following a service error by Embry-Riddle. 
  • Nova Southeastern recorded 4-of-5 points in the early stages of the second-set, with Bruna Avila tallying a service ace, while Alex Psoma and Amanda Hall recorded kills. 
  • Psoma added a service ace, giving the Sharks a 17-7 lead in the second-set. 
  • The Sharks earned the second set victory, 25-17 over Embry-Riddle. 
  • Embry-Riddle took an early lead 6-1 to start the third-set. 
  • A 5-0 run by NSU tied the third-set, as Fiocco tallied two consecutive kills to make the score 6-6. 
  • Later in the set, the Sharks rallied to tie the set 20-20 with two errors from ERAU. 
  • The Eagles took the third-set with a score of 25-21. 
  • NSU led 4-1 in the beginning of the fourth-set.  
  • Nova Southeastern and Embry-Riddle traded points, until the set sat tied at 11-11, when the Sharks rallied for seven consecutive points, taking an 18-11 advantage. 
  • Price tallied three kills during the rally and Avila capped off the run with a service ace.  
  • ERAU responded, coming back to win the fourth-set 26-24 over the Sharks. 
  • The undefeated SSC foes went the distance, with the Eagles taking a 3-0 lead in the beginning of the final. 
  • The fifth-set remained a back-and-forth contest, with the set being tied five times. 
  • Fiocco capped off the victory for the Sharks, as NSU remained undefeated with a 15-12 win in five-sets over the Eagles.

NSU Volleyball has its shot at history on Saturday afternoon, taking on Rollins from the Rick Case Arena at 4 p.m.
