Sharks Complete Weekend Sweep to Open Season

NSU defeats Quincy and Stonehill to move to 3-0

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Nova Southeastern Volleyball completed a three-game sweep in the NSU Volleyball Shark Invitational presented by Courtyard Marriot on Saturday evening. NSU began the day with a three-set sweep against Quincy (IL.) before closing the tournament with a three-set victory against Stonehill (MA.). The Sharks extended their winning streak, dating back to Nov. 2019, to nine consecutive matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. QUINCY 

  • The Sharks raced out to a 5-2 lead in the first set against the Hawks, as Julia Bernardes recorded three consecutive kills.  
  • QU had a four-point run, taking a 6-5 lead, when Brittany Landrum tied the set 6-6 with a kill.  
  • NSU scored six unanswered points, including two kills from Elizabeth Price, as the Sharks led 12-7. 
  • Nova Southeastern led by as many as eight points, 20-12, following two consecutive errors by QU.  
  • Price sealed the 25-21 set win with a service ace.  
  • Midway through the second set, Landrum extended the Sharks lead to 13-11.  
  • Nova Southeastern sealed the second set win with an incredible 8-0 run, capped off by an Alexandra Psoma kill.  
  • The Sharks extended their run to 11 consecutive points to open the third set, with Landrum scoring the first point.  
  • Price and Psoma added kills to bring the NSU lead to 8-3. 
  • QU cut the Nova Southeastern lead to 18-16 when Marianna Fiocco and Alex Psoma added back-to-back kills.  
  • Price closed out the second victory of the season for NSU, extending the program's winning streak to eight. 

HOW IT HAPPED VS. STONEHILL 

  • NSU established momentum early against the Skyhawks, scoring the first seven points of the match, including 9-of-10 to start.  
  • Bernardes and Fiocco added kills to extend the Sharks advantage to 12-7.  
  • Nova Southeastern rallied for another extended run, scoring five unanswered points to lead 17-7.  
  • The Sharks closed the first set with a 25-14 win.  
  • NSU needed to rally to get the regain the lead in the second set and did just that, scoring four straight points to take a 10-8 lead. 
  • Nova Southeastern clinched the set victory with a 6-0 run to end the second set, capitalizing on five QU errors. 
  • The Sharks opened the third set with five consecutive points. 
  • NSU recorded 7-of-8 points, extending the lead to 12-5. 
  • Kate Mihacevich sealed the second straight Sharks sweep with her first kill of the match following a Cambry Pope service ace. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • NSU swept the Shark Invitational, going 9-1 in three matches.
