#4 NSU Dominates in SSC Opener

Sharks Defeat Lynn by 62 in start of SSC Title Defense

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Nova Southeastern Men's Basketball team continued their undefeated stretch to begin the 2022-23 season, defeating Lynn 112 – 50 on Wednesday evening in the Sharks Sunshine State Conference opener. It's the largest margin of victory for the Sharks since the 2019-20 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half – With the score tied at 4-4 in the opening few minutes of the contest, NSU rattled off an 8-0 and took a 12-4 lead over Lynn. Nova Southeastern continued to extend its advantage, scoring twelve consecutive points, pushing its lead to 24-6. RJ Sunahara scored eight consecutive points, including converting an and-one, putting NSU in front 32-12 over Lynn with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Sharks lead reached 30-points over the Fighting Knights, as NSU continued to pull away as the opening period waned into its final minutes. The Sharks went into the halftime break with a massive 58-20 lead over Lynn.

Second Half – Nova Southeastern continued to maintain the momentum following the break, as the Sharks opened the second half on a 20-8 run, extending the lead to 78-28. The Sharks were able to get the entire team involved, as NSU cruised to a dominant 112-50 win over Lynn. The Sharks bench was able to get minutes for much of the second half, Jonathan Pierre led the way for the reserve unit, scoring a career-best 19 points, while knocking down five three-pointers, while Shane Hunter added 16 points

STATS OF THE NIGHT
Four Sharks recorded double-digit points, as Will Yoakum (21 points/9-11 FG) and RJ Sunahara (15) joined Pierre and Hunter.
The 62-point differential in the 112-50 win over Lynn marked the largest margin of victory for the Sharks since NSU defeated Clayton State 154-85 on 11/30/2019 and biggest spread in Sunshine State Conference action since beating Tampa 130-76 on 1/25/2020.
