Sharks’ 11-Game Win Streak Snapped on Wednesday

NSU drops 6-4 decision against Kutztown

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team saw its 11-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday, as a five-run fifth inning proved too much to overcome in a 6-4 loss to Kutztown. The setback drops the Sharks to 17-8 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 1st | Following a two-hour weather delay in the top of the first, the Sharks wasted little time getting on the scoreboard thanks to a Tia Williams RBI-double into the right center gap that plated Ryleigh Langwell. Three batters later, Madison Fine singled right back up the middle, giving NSU an early 2-0 advantage.

BOT 4th | After Kutztown erased the shutout in the third, NSU answered back in the fourth when Alexis Smith drove in pinch-runner Sidney Swantic on a two-out single up the middle.

TOP 5th | A pair of errors proved costly in the fifth, as the second not only prolonged the inning but allowed the Bears to trim the margin to 3-2. An infield hit in the ensuing at-bat knotted the score at 3-3 before a three-run blast by KU's Sarah Harvey all the sudden put the visitors in front 6-3.

BOT 6th | NSU would get a run back in the sixth on a Sydney Lagyre RBI-single into rightfield.

BOT 7th | The Sharks brought the tying run to the plate after an Allie Janowiak base hit. However, a game-ending, 1-6-3 double play would thwart any chance of forcing extras.

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Five of the six runs allowed by NSU starting pitcher Emily Hess were unearned.
  • Fine, Janowiak and Williams each registered two hits apiece, accounting for six of the Sharks' 10 as a team.
