Sharks Offense Erupts for Season-High 22 Runs in Rout of PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Sharks jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and that was more than enough to earn the series opening victory against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday evening. NSU began the SSC series with a 22-6 victory, marking the most runs the Sharks have scored in a single game in the 2022 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

NSU wasted no time breaking the game open, plating 12 runs in the top of the first inning. With one out in the frame NSU loaded the bases following back-to-back walks and an Adan Fernandez hit-by-pitch. Daniel Irisarri drove a single to the opposite field, scoring two, and getting the Sharks an early 2-0 lead. Adam Smith followed with an RBI single of his own, pushing the lead to 3-0. Back-to-back bases loaded walks from Alex Hernandez and Bryce Hazzard put NSU in front 5-0. The Sharks plated seven more runs, on the strength of four more RBI singles, taking a 12-0 lead over PBA after just one inning of play.

Sharks starting pitcher Daniel Rivero set the Sailfish down in order, unphased by the over 30-minute inning the NSU offense enjoyed spotting him an early lead. Nova Southeastern tacked on four more runs in the top half of the second inning, extending the lead to 16-0 over Palm Beach Atlantic.

It was more of the same offensive output for NSU in the third inning, as the first five batters reached base, and the Sharks plated three more runs to put the score at 19-2 in the early going. The outburst continued into the fourth inning, with Nova Southeastern scoring two more runs, putting the score at 21-2.

PBA rallied late, scoring a total of four runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but hardly made a dent in the ledger as NSU led 22-6 going into the bottom of the ninth.
