Sharks Drop SSC Series To Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Baseball team dropped both halves a doubleheader on Sunday to the Saint Leo Lions. NSU lost game one 15-4 and fell in the series finale 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Sharks starting pitcher Matt Kavanaugh set down the first six Lions hitters he faced to start game two of the Sunshine State Conference series. Saint Leo got to the southpaw in the bottom of the third, plating four runs to take a 4-0 lead over NSU. The Lions added three runs in the following inning, pushing their lead to 7-0 over Nova Southeastern. 

Adam Frank got NSU on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, putting the score at 7-1. Saint Leo responded with four more runs in the bottom half of the inning, extending the lead to 11-1. 

The deficit proved to be to much for the Sharks, as NSU dropped game two of the series 15-4. 

In game two of the doubleheader and the series finale, the Lions got on the board first scoring two in the bottom of the third inning. NSU responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, as Tyler Epstein drove in Adan Fernandez with an RBI double. Later in the inning, Bryce Hazzard brought in Daniel Irisarri to tie the game at 2-2. NSU took its first lead of the day with an RBI single from Irisarri the following inning. The lead held until the bottom of the seventh, when Saint Leo tied the game on a solo home run. The Lions plated two more in the bottom of the eighth inning and closed out the series with a 5-3 win in the finale. 

UPCOMING

NSU will travel to West Palm tBeach to take on the PBA Sailfish in non-conference action on Tuesday, April 5. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
