Sharks Fall to Eagles in SSC Match

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In the (RV) Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team return to action following the South Region Crossover, NSU was defeated in four-sets by the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Friday evening from the ICI Center.

How it Happened
  • Embry-Riddle began the match with all the momentum, rushing out to a 10-2 advantage.
  • Gabrielle Spankus and Nadia Lindner sparked a brief 3-0 rally by the Sharks, cutting the deficit to 12-8.
  • The Eagles closed out the opening set, taking the frame 25-11.
  • A service ace from Varshini Panuganti put NSU in front 3-1 in the early stages of the second set.
  • ERAU rallied for a 7-0 run, putting NSU down 9-4.
  • Later in the set, with Nova Southeastern behind 15-9 and following a timeout, Spankus started a 12-1 rally for the Sharks, as NSU took over firm control on the set with a 21-16 lead.
  • During the rally, Spankus recorded a kill and a pair of service aces, while Nadia Linder, Oliva Aniol, and Taylor Stockman all tallied points.
  • Stockman closed out the 25-18 set victory for the Sharks with the final two kills, tying the match at 1-1.
  • In the third set, both Sunshine State Conference foes battled back-and-forth, putting the score at 8-8 following a 3-0 run by NSU.
  • Trailing 23-15, a block from Aniol and Stockman, followed by kills from Stockman and Kate Mihacevich, allowed NSU to cut the Eagles' lead to 23-19.
  • ERAU closed out the third set by a score of 25-20, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • The Eagles began the fourth set with a 7-2 run.
  • NSU took advantage of a pair of Embry-Riddle errors, in addition to back-to-back kills from Mihacevich, putting the score at 22-19 in favor of ERAU.
  • The Eagles closed out the match with a 25-22 fourth set win.

Head Coach Kacie Ehinger – "We put up a good fight after a slow start to the match, but couldn't string it all together and get comfortable in a lot of aspects of the game. We're looking forward to returning to the Shark Tank on Tuesday!"
