Sharks Drop SSC Opener to Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Baseball team opened its series with Rollins on Friday evening, losing 4-2 on a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning. LHP Carlos Rey starred for the Sharks despite the loss, striking out 9 batters in the Sunshine State Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Top of the First – With two outs, Duncan Pastore (single), Daniel Irisarri (single) and Adam Smith (walk) loaded the bases, but the Sharks were unable to pick up any runs.
Top of the Third – NSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Adam Smith drove in Kristian Noriega and Pastore with a bases-loaded single to left field.
Bottom of the Third – With consecutive extra-base hits, Rollins cut Nova Southeastern's lead to 2-1.
Bottom of the Fifth – The Tars tied the game with an RBI groundout.
Top of the Sixth – Adam Frank, Kolbe Aven and Stephen Schissler loaded the bases, but for the second time of the game, the Sharks were unable to score any runs.
Top of the Eighth – Frank and Derek Bermudez singled on back-to-back at bats, but a double play ended the inning for NSU.
Top of the Ninth – The Sharks had a runner on second base but couldn't drive in the go-ahead run.
Bottom of the Ninth – Rollins hit a walk-off two-run home run, winning the game 4-2.

The Sharks return to the field for game two against Rollins on Saturday, February 25. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
