Sharks Drop Series Opener to Florida Southern

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Sharks were defeated 7-6 in the Sunshine State Conference series opener by Florida Southern on Friday afternoon. Michael Uz hit a three-run home run, his second of the season, sparking the Sharks offense in the effort.

How it Happened
Top of the Second – Florida Southern got on the scoreboard first, taking an early lead on a solo home run.

Bottom of the Third – Nova Southeastern responded with two runs in the frame, as Adam Smith came up clutch with a two-out, bases loaded, double and drove in Ryan Cainzos and Michael Uz.

Top of the Sixth – Carlos Rey, the Sharks starting pitcher, held FSC out of the hit column until the sixth inning and finished the frame with his ninth strikeout.

Bottom of the Sixth – NSU padded its lead with a three-run home run off the bat of Uz, putting the score at 5-1.

Top of the Seventh – The Moccasins scored two in the inning, cutting the Nova Southeastern lead to 5-3.

Top of the Ninth – In the final inning, Florida Southern rallied to score four runs – all coming on a two-out grand slam – and took a 7-5 lead over the Sharks in stunning fashion.

Bottom of the Ninth – Stephen Schissler drove in Daniel Irisarri on an RBI single, putting the core at 7-6, and the tying run at second base, but the Sharks were unable to tie the game and dropped the series opener to Florida Southern.

What's Next
NSU will continue its SSC series against Florida Southern on Saturday, April 15, taking on the Moccasins from the Baseball Field at Palm Beach State College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
