Sharks Take Series Opener Against Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team won its 28th game of the season on Friday evening, defeating Florida Southern 9-2. The Sharks were led by a dominant 3-hit, 3-RBI performance from Tia Williams in the Sunshine State Conference victory.

How it Happened

TOP 1st | Ryleigh Langwell tripled and Tia Williams drove her in on a single up the middle, helping the Sharks jump out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning.

TOP 4th | Kerstyn Shaw led off the inning with a double down the left field line and Samantha Burke followed with a walk. After both runners were advanced on a sacrifice bunt, Alexis Smith reached on an error that allowed Shaw to score and extend the Sharks' lead to 2-0.

BOT 4th | After a trio of hits, the Mocs added a run to lower its' deficit to 2-1.

BOT 6th | Florida Southern loaded the bases and added a run after a base hit down the first base line, tying the game 2-2.

TOP 7th | After Alexi Watkins, Smith and Alyssa Drogemuller loaded the bases with no out, Williams drove in a pair of runs on a single through the left side and gave NSU a 4-2 lead. The scoring was just getting started, as Madison Fine added another run after driving in Drogemuller. The bases were loaded again and a hit-by-pitch from Hayley Lynch, an RBI-groundout from Watkins and a reached-on-error from Smith gave the Sharks a 9-2 lead going into the final frame.

BOT 7th | Drogemuller shutout the Mocs in the final inning, securing a complete game and a 9-2 win for the Sharks.

What's Next

The Sharks will conclude its series with the Mocs in a double-header on Saturday, April 15 in Lakeland, Fla. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
