Sharks Fall Against Saints

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks took on Maryville on Friday evening and dropped the match in three-sets, in the opening match for the Sharks in the 2023 Bash at the Beach, hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic.

How it Happened

  • The Sharks started the match with a quick 3-0 run in the first set, receiving points from Nadia Lindner and Taylor Stockman.  
  • Nova Southeastern continued the early rally, scoring four consecutive points with kills from Olivia Aniol, Stockman and Elizabeth Price, opening a 7-1 advantage. 
  • Maryville responded with an extended run and took a 15-10 lead over NSU in the first set.  
  • NSU tried to battle back in the opening set but dropped the first frame 25-17.  
  • The Sharks battled with the Saints throughout the second set, as Kate Mihacevich cut Maryville's lead to 10-8.  
  • Maryville went on another extended run, putting the score at 19-10.  
  • The Saints closed out the second set, taking it 25-16, putting the Sharks down 2-0 in the match.  
  • NSU fell behind 12-6 early in the third set and needed a run to get back into the contest.  
  • A service ace from Varshini Panuganti cut the Saints lead to 14-11, capping off a 3-0 rally by the Sharks.  
  • Later in the match, Lindner and Stockman sparked another 3-0 run by the Sharks, putting the score at 22-20, but Maryville closed out the match with three consecutive points.  
  • Nova Southeastern returns to the court on Saturday, September 9, with a pair of matches. NSU takes on Rockhurst at 10 a.m. on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic and closes out the weekend with a match against Wheeling at 4 p.m. on the campus of Lynn.
