Hunter Leads #2 Sharks Past Barry

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Led by a double-double (26 points/14 rebounds) from Shane Hunter, the second-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's Basketball team emerged victorious with an 88-80 Sunshine State Conference victory, over the Barry Buccaneers, on Wednesday evening at the Rick Case Arena. The victory marks the Sharks 56th consecutive home win, dating back to February 2020. 

No. 2 Nova Southeastern has won 13 straight games against the Buccaneers, dating back to November 2018.

How it Happened
First Half - Shane Hunter started and capped off an 8-2 run for the Sharks to open up the contest, however, the Buccaneers followed with a 7-2 run of their own to put the score at 10-9. Nova Southeastern responded with six unanswered points from Mike Moore, Alex Mangold, and Trey Doomes. A few moments later, Eli Allen knocked down a three-pointer, putting NSU in front 21-11. Midway through the first half, following buckets from Doomes and Hunter, the Sharks opened up a 31-18 lead over the Buccaneers. The Sunshine State Conference foes traded baskets back-and-forth, as Barry was able to cut the NSU advantage to 38-36 with two minutes remaining in the opening half. The Sharks closed the half up 42-36. 

Second Half - NSU quickly reclaimed a double digit lead in the opening minutes of the second half with a 46-36 lead. The Sharks were able to extend the advantage, putting the score at 70-51 at the midway point. The Buccaneers trimmed away at the NSU advantage, going on a 24-8 run, over a five minute stretch, putting the score at 78-75 with just under five minutes remaining. Hunter closed out the contest, scoring the final 12 points of the game for the Sharks, as Nova Southeastern pulled out the 88-80 victory over Barry.
