Sharks Split Doubleheader With Blazers

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The #25 ranked Nova Southeastern Softball team competed in a doubleheader matchup against Valdosta State on Sunday afternoon from the VSU Softball Complex. Alexis Smith led the Sharks to victory in game one, batting in five RBIs and two home runs. The Blazers answered in game two, taking down NSU 7-6 and earning the doubleheader split.

How it Happened

TOP 1st – Aubrey Hutzler kicked off the action with an RBI single, bringing two Sharks across home plate for the early 2-0 lead.  

TOP 2nd – Alyssa Drogemuller joined the action with an RBI single up the middle, tacking on another Shark run. 

TOP 4th - Drogemuller added another RBI to her stat sheet with a double. 

TOP 5th – Alexis Smith came up to the plate and homered to center field, putting NSU up 5-0. Shortly after, Kerstyn Shaw batted in two more runs for NSU to continue the Sharks surge. Drogemuller would then earn her third RBI of the game after grounding out to second base with Russo scoring in the process. The run barrage would continue as Alexis Smith hit a grand slam bomb to left field to put the Sharks up 12-0, her second home run. Nova Southeastern would go on and secure the12-0 victory over the Blazers in five innings.

How it Happened

TOP 2nd – Alyssa Drogemuller earned an RBI single to kick off the action.  

BOT 2nd  – VSU tacked on two runs to take the early 2-1 lead. 

TOP 3rd – Brenna Lokeinsky was walked with the bases loaded, bringing another Shark run across home plate to knot the game up at two apiece.  

TOP 4th – An RBI from Ryleigh Langwell and a home run from Hutzler (3 RBIs) pushed the Sharks ahead 6-2.  

BOT 4th – The Blazers answered with four runs of their own to tie the match at six apiece. 

BOT 6th – Valdosta hit a home run to right field, taking their first lead since the bottom of the second. 

What's Next

The Sharks will be back Thursday, March 28th at 6:00 PM as they head to Tampa, FL to take on Tampa in an SSC series.
