#25 Sharks Sweep Flagler in Doubleheader Action


ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The #25 ranked Nova Southeastern Softball team completed the doubleheader sweep over Flagler on Tuesday evening from Flagler Field. NSU was led by multiple RBIs from five different players in their 11-2 game-one victory. The Sharks followed that up with a thrilling 11-10 win in game two, led by a two-home run game from Gianna Russo

How it Happened

TOP 1st – With one runner on base, Madison Fine kicked off the action with a two-run homer to left field, giving the Sharks an early 2-0 lead. 

BOT 1st – Flagler answered with a run of their own, cutting the Sharks lead to one run. 

TOP 2nd – Maliyah Lawson joined the action, hitting a solo home run to left field, her first career home run. 

BOT 2nd – The Saints weren't backing down, hitting a home run to bring the score to 3-2. 

TOP 3rd – NSU's run barrage continued as a two-RBI single from Brenna Lokeinsky pushed the Sharks ahead 5-2.  

TOP 5th – Lawson's stellar day continued as she batted in another run to extend NSU's lead to four runs. 

TOP 6th – NSU continued to apply the pressure, tacking on five runs, thanks to two RBIs from Aubrey Hutzler and a three-run home run by Gianna Russo. Nova Southeastern would ultimately secure the victory, taking down Flagler 11-2 in game one.

Five Sharks had two or more RBIs (Madison Fine (2), Aubrey Hutzler (2), Brenna Lokeinsky (2), Gianna Russo (3), and Maliyah Lawson (2).

 How it Happened 

TOP 1st - Aubrey Hutzler kicked off the action with an RBI single to center field. Shortly after, the Sharks tacked on another run off of a wild pitch by the Saints, putting NSU ahead 2-0.

BOT 1st - Flagler put three runs on the board to take a 3-2 lead.

TOP 2nd - Gianna Russo tied the game at three apiece after a solo home run to right field.

TOP 3rd - With two runners on base, Brenna Lokeinsky joined the home run action, hitting a three-run homer to left center. The home run barrage continued as Russo hit her second home run of the game to put the Sharks up 7-3. 

TOP 4th - NSU's surge continued as RBIs from Madison Fine and Hutzler gave the Sharks a six-run advantage.

BOT 4th - The Saints cut into the Sharks lead, tacking on two runs to bring the score to 9-5.

BOT 6th - Flagler continued to fight, putting two more runs on the board and bringing their deficit to one run.

TOP 7th - NSU extended their lead to 11-8 thanks to RBIs from Ryleigh Langwell and Alyssa Drogemuller

BOT 7th - Flagler tacked on two more runs to cut the Sharks lead to one run but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback. Nova Southeastern would go on to secure the 11-10 victory and complete the doubleheader sweep over the Saints.

What's Next

NSU will return to action on Friday, April 12th as they head to Daytona Beach, FL to take on Embry-Riddle. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
