How it Happened

First Set (25-7, BU) – Despite the Sharks collecting a handful of points early in the set, the Buccaneers took off going on a 14-2 run to clinch the set. Barry hit an other-worldly .609 in the set. Of note for the Sharks, freshman Kotryna Melstrad made her collegiate debut at the service line.

Second Set (25-21, BU) – The Sharks showed resiliency after a difficult first set with kills from Caiden Largent and Natalya Bergant, who led the team in kills when the match was all said and done. However, with NSU leading 10-9, Barry went on a 7-1 run to take a commanding five-point lead. The Sharks could never pull back to a tie as Barry took a two sets to none lead. The second frame also saw the rise of Taylor Norris at the middle blocker position as she ended the match leading the team with four total blocks.

Third Set (25-20, BU) – The younger of the two Largent sisters, Callie Largent, shined in a tandem with Abbie Roth in a two-setter look for the Sharks as Largent ended the match leading the team in assists for the first time in her career. It was an experimental look for a NSU team looking to reinvent itself into the final third of the season with appearances from Callie Largent and Taylor Norris with Natalya Bergant and her powerful deliveries, leading the attacking for the Sharks.

Bergant led the team in kills with 10, libero Taylor Teaman collected her 19th consecutive match with 10+ digs. NSU despite hitting in the negatives after the first set managed to salvage a team hitting percentage of .137.
