Softball Falls in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks fell in all three games of its road series against Tampa. NSU only scored three runs in the series.

Breakdown Game 1

How it Happened Game 1
  • Both pitchers battled back and forth only allowing four combined hits through the first four and a half innings.
  • Tampa strung together four straight base hits to take a two-run advantage in the fifth.
  • The Sharks responded in the sixth with an Abbey Moore RBI double to centerfield to cut the deficit in half.
  • The Spartans slammed the door, not allowing another NSU base hit to take the series opener
  • Gracelyn Wallace struck out three and only allowed two runs across six innings of work in the losing effort.

How it Happened Game 2
  • The Sharks drew first blood in the second taking advantage of a UT error with runners at the corners to take a 1-0 lead.
  • NSU threatened again in the third with two runners aboard, but failed to score.
  • Tampa took advantage of two NSU errors to score three runs in the third inning, all unearned.
  • Neither team would have a scoring threat again in the game, NSU only had three base hits in the final four innings, while Tampa had two.
  • Tampa tried to add an insurance run in the sixth but Abbey Moore and Gianna Russo combined to catch a Spartan stealing home.
  • Both teams combined to commit five errors in the game.
  • Ana Richiez went 2-for-4 at the plate while not allowing a single earned run to cross the plate for Tampa.

How it Happened Game 3
  • Tampa got off to a fast start scoring twice in the home half of the first.
  • NSU struggled to get the bats going as the Spartans took advantage scoring two more times in the third on a two-RBI double.
  • UT would score one more time before the Sharks even collected their first base hit in the fifth.
  • Another run scored for the Spartans in the sixth to push the lead to seven.
  • NSU attempted to rally in the seventh getting two runners in scoring position, scoring one on an Ana Richiez sacrifice fly to bring the game to its eventual final score.

The Sharks face their biggest test of the season as No. 2 Saint Leo comes to NSU Softball Stadium for a three-game series.
