Sharks Finish Season with Near-Perfect Sweep of Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University softball ended its season on a seven-game winning streak including a sweep of Lynn with two run-rule victories.

How it Happened Game 1
  • It didn't take long to get the Sharks on the scoreboard as Christina D'Agostino homered on the second pitch of the game.
  • NSU would score later that inning on a Gianna Russo RBI single.
  • The Sharks extended the lead to three with a Savanna Isaacson RBI single in the second inning.
  • Gracelyn Wallace kept the Fighting Knights at bay only allowing two hits through the first four innings.
  • Nova Southeastern broke the ballgame open in the fifth putting up a seven-run crooked number.
  • The inning was capped off by a grand slam to left field from Savanna Isaacson, her first home run of the season giving her five RBI in the game.
  • Down 10-0, Lynn was down to its final three outs in the fifth. The Knights got runners on the corners but Wallace slammed the door only allowing three hits through five innings for the complete game shutout.

How it Happened Game 2
  • NSU once again wasted no time and put up a run in the opening frame. A Destiny Lewis double to left scored Christina D'Agostino to put the Sharks up, 1-0.
  • The Sharks later took advantage of a Lynn fielding error followed by another piece of clutch hitting from Savanna Isaacson as she laced a two-RBI double to left scoring Abbey Moore and Bella Ligotti to push the lead to four.
  • Ana Richiez dealt a no-hitter through four innings only allowing a single baserunner to reach on error.
  • Nova Southeastern pushed the game into run-rule territory with a four-run fifth inning. Gianna Russo hit a leadoff home run before a RBI groundout and a two-RBI triple from Bianna Matthews pushed the NSU lead to 8-0.
  • Lynn extended the game with its first hit of the contest scoring on a RBI groundout to push the game outside of run-rule territory and move into the sixth.
  • The Fighting Knights kept battling back in the sixth scoring two more times on a pair of RBI groundouts.
  • Ana Richiez was able to regain composure and set the Lynn batters down in order in the seventh to secure the complete game victory.
  • The win was NSU's sixth in a row and secured the series victory against Lynn.

How it Happened Game 3
  • After a quiet first, the Sharks made sure the waters didn't stay calm scoring nine runs in the second inning.
  • Gianna Russo got the scoring started with a two-run blast to left, her second of the day and ninth of the season.
  • Emily Garcia put a RBI single into left center and two more scored on a Destiny Lewis single to centerfield.
  • Ana Richiez doubled to left to score another and put runners at second and third to put the score at 6-0.
  • Gianna Russo flexed her muscle again hitting another home run to dead-centerfield for her third home run of the day and second of the inning to cap the inning with a 9-0 NSU lead.
  • Gracelyn Wallace dealt a no-hitter into the fifth with the Fighting Knights down to their last three outs.
  • Lynn found its lone base hit of the game but that's all it could muster as the Sharks clinched the series sweep.
  • NSU's pitching staff held Lynn to just six base hits in the series as the Sharks outhit the Fighting Knights, 34-6, over the three game series.

The Sharks season comes to a close with a final record of 30-22 and 16-14 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks' season featured games against eight teams selected to the NCAA Tournament.
