FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University has named Women's Soccer Assistant Coach Stephen Burgess to Interim Head Coach, Interim Athletic Director Ryan Romero announced Tuesday afternoon.

Burgess, who has been serving as an assistant coach for the last three seasons under Amy Vaughan, has helped turn the Sharks into a national contender with the team reaching the NCAA Round of 16 in both 2023 and 2025.

He has over 25 years of coaching and technical leadership experience including being on the coaching staff at Keiser University helping lead the program to NAIA National Championships in 2019 and 2021 while earning United Soccer Coaches Staff of the Year honors.

Burgess has been in head coaching roles in the club and high school levels highlighted by six FHSAA State Championships while at American Heritage High School (Plantation), earning NSCAA National Coach of the Year honors.

Burgess gets his first game in charge of the Sharks' dugout on Aug. 27 against Georgian Court at 4 p.m. at NSU Soccer Stadium.

A decision on the future of the position will be made following the completion of the 2026 campaign.
