NSU Honors 12 Seniors, Defeats PBA 2-1

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Women's Soccer team earned a 2-1 Sunshine State Conference victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday evening at the NSU Soccer Stadium, celebrating Senior Night before kickoff by honoring 12 members of the program. Jianna Ramirez, Maja Isaksson, Ella Niemelä, Maria Jansen, Indie Morgan, Liwa Nilsson, Haley Mettrick, Emma Besl, Michelle Barrero, Jessica Rosen, Arianna Silva, and Kristina Syragakis were recognized for their contributions to Sharks Soccer prior to the match. Nova Southeastern controlled the pace throughout the contest, outshooting the Sailfish and receiving goals from Fiona Khankhanian and Genesis Hernandez, who netted her team-leading 10th goal of the season, to remain unbeaten in Sunshine State Conference play.

How it Happened
• Nova Southeastern dominated the opening half, generating numerous scoring opportunities before breaking through in the 22nd minute. Fiona Khankhanian found the back of the net off an assist from Lova Korpas, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
• Nova Southeastern doubled its advantage in the 73rd minute when Genesis Hernandez finished a chance created by Ella Niemela, extending the lead to 2-0.
• The Sailfish responded just minutes later as Kendall Popp scored in the 75th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, setting up a tense final stretch.

What's Next
The Sharks return to Sunshine State Conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 7, when they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., to take on Eckerd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
