AS A JUNIOR (2016)
Played 42 games for the NCAA Division II National Champion Sharks, starting 41 behind the plate, despite a wide array of injuries… Hit the go-ahead three-run home run in the 7th inning of a 7-4 win at Alabama-Huntsville on Feb. 6, his first homer of the season, as well as the first of four games with four or more RBI… Continued his hot hitting with a huge effort in a series sweep of Tuskegee on Feb.19-20, starting with a career-high five RBI, along with three hits, including a double and homer in the 20-0 series-opener victory, followed by his first career multi-homer game as part of another career-high performance of four hits in four at bats, with four more RBI and a stolen base… Hit .818 in the series (9-for-11) with a slugging percentage of 1.909, nine runs batted in, five runs scored, three doubles and three home runs, and was a triple shy of the cycle in each of the first two games… Extended his multi-hit game streak to four, tied the longest streak of the season by anyone on the team, at Flagler on Feb. 26… Earned his fourth four-RBI game of the season in an 11-5 win over Embry-Riddle, the first game of a program-record fifth consecutive sweep… Named by Baseball America as one of the top-15 catchers among all draft-eligible prospects prior to the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, and is widely considered to be the best defensive catcher in the DII region… Finished the season as a .271 hitter, with 39 hits, 21 runs scored and 30 driven in… Took 16 walks and another eight pitches, giving him a .375 on-base percentage, and contributed nine doubles, two triples and seven home runs, producing a .507 slugging percentage.
SUMMER 2015
Hernandez received great experience in the famed Cape Cod League, as the only non-Division I player on his team. In 16 games for the Harwich Mariners, Hernandez crushed two home runs and drove in six runs, hitting .256 with a .395 slugging percentage over his final 14 games.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2015)
Played in 40 games as the Sharks’ starting catcher…Surpassed his freshman year home run total on the second day of the season…In a 13-7 defeat of Stillman on Opening Day (1/31), tied career highs in runs (3) and hits (3), also driving in three on a double and first home run…Second home run of the season came in a 10-5 win over Stillman (2/1), also drawing a career-high two walks, a mark he would match twice later in the season…In an 11-1 victory against Albany State (2/28), drove in three runs on a career-high two doubles…Matched his career high with three hits again in a 19-2 win against Adelphi (3/15)…Had the best series of his career 4/3-4/4 against Tampa, going 5-for-12 overall, with five runs batted in and three extra-base hits…In the first game of the series, delivered the walk-off single to score Mario Urdaneta and win, 7-6…2-4 with three RBI in the second game, a 10-5 victory, to help clinch Tampa’s first SSC series loss since the 2012 season…in the series finale, hit a walk-off homer to win, 7-6, only the fourth such walk-off home run in the Sharks’ NCAA history, marking the first time Tampa was swept since the 2011 season...Named SSC Player of the Week for his efforts… Finished the season with a .275 average, .361 on-base percentage, and .493 slugging percentage…Tallied 38 hits, 27 runs scored, 28 runs driven in, seven doubles, one triple, seven homers, 18 walks and a stolen base.
AS A FRESHMAN (2014)
Made 29 appearances and 16 starts as the Sharks' catcher...Finished the season with a .248 batting average...Finished fourth on the team in slugging percentage (.463)...Recorded seven doubles, one triple and one home run for NSU in his freshman campaign...His one triple came in a 2-for-4 performance, in a 15-0 win over Palm Beach Atlantic (3/29)...Had a season-high in hits (3) and RBI (4) in the 13-6 win over Rollins (5/3)...Had three RBI in a 15-3 win over Albany State (2/7) and against Barry in a 5-3 road loss (3/15).
