Alabama-Huntsville - First Round Press Conference Quotes

General Thoughts
Head Coach Roy Heintz - This is a historic day in UAH Lady Charger Basketball history and this team continues to make history, and I’m very, very proud of them. Last week we won our first GSC Championship, today we win our first NCAA tournament game and couldn’t be more proud of this group. They got tested in that second half and they showed the resolve. Bailee hit a big three for us and all three of these young ladies did a great job with the basketball in their hands down the stretch. Halle Jarnagin (SP) with a double-double today as a freshman, not bad for her first NCAA tournament and Natalie Kelley just her usual reliable self on the board so, again, very proud of this team and we are excited to advance in the tournament.

Q: Matchup against Delta State, Saturday?

Heintz: It’s going to be a battle, we know that and we just talked to the team in the locker room and said if the rolls were reversed, you know how hungry you would be to get some revenge and to go out and try to get the “W”, so we’ll be prepared for that. We have played three times so we probably know each other’s calls and tendencies and each other’s personnel’s, so when you have a game like that I think it’s going to be the team that battles the hardest, plays the smartest and executes and all the intangibles will probably decide the game, 50/50 balls and those kinds of things. It’s going to be a tough one but I think it’s going to be a great basketball game.

Q for Bailee Robinson: You had 11 points over the last four minutes, was it your intention to try to take it all the way to the end?

Robinson: No, I had a slow start to the game, my defender was pretty stuck to me the whole time, I didn’t really have a lot. Jaz and Jordan and the rest of the team, Halle were taking the ball to the goal and getting things done so I was just trying to play solid, and down the stretch opportunities came, they left me open and thank God it went in.

Q for Jordan Smith: Were you nervous when the game was tied?

Smith: We knew we had to get the job done, there was a little tension in the huddles but we knew we could come together as a team and pick it back up when we were up by 21 at one point, so we knew what we needed to do to stop them, get rebounds and like balle did, make big shots down the stretch.

Q for Jasmine Hammon: What does this win mean to the program?

Hammon: It’s a great feeling, especially coming off the conference tournament, it just seemed like another thing we accomplished as a team, and you know me and the rest of us, we love our seniors and not only are we doing it for us but we are doing it for them.
