NSU Sports Medicine Interdisciplinary Team

Team Physician
13311Dr. Alessandra Posey, D.O. -  Dr. Posey began her first year as member of the NSU Sports Medicine Interdisciplinary Team in 2016. She serves as the Team Physician and is also an Assistant Professor of the Osteopathic Principles and Practice at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. A native to Miami, Florida, Dr. Posey is a graduate of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. She is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine and trained in Family Medicine at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida where she served as Chief Resident before completing her Sports Medicine Fellowship here at NSU. In her spare time, Dr. Posey enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and playing sports, especially volleyball.

Orthopedic Surgeon
1949Dr. Erol Yoldas, M.D. -  Dr. Yoldas has become one of the top orthopedic sports medicine doctors in Florida with over 16 years of practice in Fort Lauderdale. He began practice in 2000, specializing in complex reconstruction of knee, shoulder, and elbow injuries. Currently performing over 900 surgeries a year, half of his practice is knees (ACL reconstruction, meniscal/cartilage injuries) and the other half shoulder/elbow (rotator cuff, labral repair/stabilization, UCL reconstruction). Prior to practicing, he received a Biomedical Engineering degree at Duke University. His medical degree is from Yale University where he received the nation’s top honor society for medicine (AOA). For his Orthopedic Residency, he trained under the outstanding sports medicine department at University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Yoldas was then offered the preeminent sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. As part of his scope of care on and off the field, Dr. Yoldas was team physician for the Miami Dolphins for over 13 years. Besides his work with the NSU student-athletes he is currently a team physician for the Miami Marlins and consultant for several local colleges. Also, he still finds time on Friday nights to volunteer coverage for several local high schools. Dr. Yoldas is also actively working with the leaders in the research industry, developing novel techniques that are less invasive offering patients the best chance to recover.

General & Cosmetic Dentistry 
2825Dr. Ira M. Kotch - Dr. Ira M. Kotch was born and raised in New York City and at the age of 12 his family relocated to South Florida. After graduating from North Miami Beach Senior High School, Dr. Kotch attended the University of Florida. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry (1980), and a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree (1984after which he completed a General Practice Residency at The Dade County Dental Research Clinic. Dr. Kotch received a Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1990. He practices a full scope of general, family, and cosmetic dentistry with expertise ranging from porcelain veneers and orthodontics to dental implants and crowns.

Dietitian Nutritionist
13314Dr. Marilyn Gordon, Ed.D., RDN, CSSD, LDN - Dr. Gordon is NSU’s very own Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist. She has specialty board certification and is credentialed as a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). She earned her undergraduate degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science, and holds a Doctorate degree in Higher Education. Marilyn has worked in the clinical, community, educational, and fitness settings. She has assisted the NSU Shark Athletes and sports medicine program for almost 10 years. She is a proponent of optimal health, sports performance, and disease prevention using healthy food choices as the ultimate fuel.

Neuropsychology
13728Dr. Lisa Lashley, Psy.D. – Dr. Lashley serves as the Team Neuropsychologist and is also the Assistant Director of the Neuropsychology Assessment Center at NSU’s College of Psychology. Dr. Lashley is also the Team Neuropsychologist for the Miami Dolphins as well as provides assessments for retired NFL players through Cleveland Clinic-Weston. Prior to practicing, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at St. John’s University and went on to earn her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology, with a specialization in neuropsychology from Nova Southeastern University. She completed her internship in neuropsychology at Child Provider Specialists and earned a 2 year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology in Miami, Florida. Dr. Lashley has co-authored four books with topics such as Neuropsychology of the Violent Offender, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and The Intercorrelation of TBI and PTSD. She has also co-authored several journal publications. Outside of work, she enjoys activities and relaxation with her husband and their two children.

Optometric Physician
13313Dr. Amanda Nanasy, O.D. - In conjunction to working with the NSU student-athletes Dr. Nanasy provides professional services for both the Florida Institute of Sports Vision and The Eye Center in Pembroke Pines. In 2005 she received a B.S. in Molecular and Microbiology and a minor in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. She then joined the Sharks family to complete a B.S. in Vision Science (2008) followed by an O.D. with Professional Honors (2010). Dr. Nanasy’s success as a Shark was evident as she was the primary investigator in a research project with the NSU baseball team titled “Can Vision Training Improve Baseball Players’ Dynamic Visual Acuity and Batting Average” as well as being named “NSU Student of the Year” in 2009. In 2010 and 2014 she was named one of the “40 Most Influential Women in Optical” by Vision Monday magazine. Her areas of specialty include Sports Vision, Pediatric Exams and Vision Therapy.  She has participated in vision care for the LPGA, Hendricks Motor Sports, Orlando Magic, New York Mets and coordinated vision screenings for the Miami Dolphins. While Dr. Nanasy is not in the practice, she enjoys sports and spending time with her family.  She met her husband, JT when they were both “Knightro”, the UCF mascot. Together they have two children.

Chiropractic Physician
13316Dr. Spencer Baron - Dr. Baron was appointed as Nova Southeastern University’s Team Chiropractor in 2015. He delights in his previous appointments as the Team Chiropractic Physician for the Miami Dolphins (19 seasons) and with the Florida Marlins (1997 – 2011). Additionally, he’s treated Major League Baseball’s New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies. He also served as Team Chiropractor for the NHL’s Florida Panthers. In 2010 he was voted “National Sports Chiropractor of the Year.” A Co-Founder of the Pro Football Chiropractic Society and Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (only 350 in the world) Dr. Baron is a distinguished asset to the NSU Sports Medicine Interdisciplinary Team.

Henderson Behavioral Health
13317Henderson Behavioral Health serves as the primary behavioral health resource for the campus community and students of not only Nova Southeastern University but also Broward College, and the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Palm Beach Regional Medical Campus. As one of the oldest, largest and most successful providers of recovery services for persons with co-occurring disorders in Florida, Henderson utilizes state of the art research and evidence-based practices, combined with a wide range of supports to treat the whole person, rather than just the illness. With programs and facilities throughout South Florida, HBH provides a comprehensive array of accessible services.
