Under Gonzalez’s leadership, Nova Southeastern’s pitching staff took a solid step forward in 2026. The Sharks finished the year with a 4.88 ERA and a 31-19 record, holding opponents to a .259 batting average over 439.0 innings. The staff allowed 238 earned runs while recording 399 strikeouts and issuing 207 walks, ranking in the middle of the Sunshine State Conference in most categories. The previous season saw NSU post a 5.62 ERA and a 26-22 record across 419.1 innings, with opponents hitting .271 and the staff allowing 262 earned runs. In his first season, Gonzalez’s 2026 staff showed clear improvement, cutting down on runs and opponent batting average while logging more innings and wins, signaling positive momentum on the mound moving forward.

Brian Gonzalez is a Miramar, Florida native, brings nearly a decade of professional pitching experience to the Sharks’ staff. A third-round selection (90th overall) by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2014 MLB Draft out of Archbishop McCarthy High School, Gonzalez went on to compete across multiple organizations, including the Orioles, Rockies, Nationals, and Padres systems. Over his Minor League career, he appeared in more than 200 games, making over 100 starts while recording more than 600 strikeouts in nearly 700 innings pitched, reaching as high as the Triple-A level.
