Devin Hoehn enters his fourth season as the Director of Player Development at Nova Southeastern in 2020-21.
Following another successful season in 2019-20, the NSU program has now compiled a record of 69-20 (.775) since Hoehn's arrival. As the reigning NCAA South Region champions, the Sharks returned to the NCAA Tournament once again in 2020 with a chance to defend their crown prior to an abrupt end to the year. Still, NSU impressed with its second straight 20-win campaign, while the offense hummed along, ranking second in the nation with 101.8 points-per-game.
The continued growth of guard Nick Smith saw his numbers climb to 13.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest, Along the way, Smith also became the 17th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points.
Additionally, Hoehn's work with Mikkel Kolstad landed the sharp-shooter a professional deal in the top league in Portugal.
Hoehn helped guide the Sharks to entirely new heights in year No. 2 with the program. After scratching the surface in 2017-18, NSU took the Sunshine State Conference, as well as the entire South Region, by storm in 2018-19. The Sharks earned the program's first-ever SSC regular season championship before sweeping through the NCAA South Region Tournament en route to the Elite Eight.
Freshly removed from his playing days, Hoehn made a large impact during his first year within the program, helping the offense climb among the Top-5 in the nation in scoring (90.1 ppg) after averaging just 71.2 points per game in 2016-17. Hoehn also played a vital role in the increased production of All-South Region point guard David Dennis (19.2 ppg, 6.8 apg), and with the early development of freshman Nick Smith (13.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg).
Upon arriving at Nova Southeastern, Hoehn was a proven winner having spent five seasons as a player at West Liberty under head coach Jim Crutchfield. After redshirting as a freshman, he became a four-year starter at guard, helping lead the Hilltoppers to three Elite Eights, two Final Fours and two National Championship appearances.
"Playing under Coach Crutchfield helped me learn the game from all different angels," said Hoehn. "Having played under Coach Crutchfield, and now having this opportunity to coach alongside him, is something a not a whole bunch of people can say they've done. I feel blessed that he and NSU gave me this opportunity to start something special."
During his senior season, Hoehn posted averages of 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 32 starts. His efforts earned him First Team All-MEC honors, while he was also named the MVP of the conference tournament.
