Amy Gatens joined the Sports Medicine staff at Nova Southeastern University in July of 2006 and was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer at Nova Southeastern University in April 2018. Gatens previously served as an athletic trainer for the NSU women’s tennis, women’s basketball, cheerleading/dance, and women’s volleyball teams since joining NSU. She currently oversees the health care of the NSU men’s basketball team and the sharkettes spirit squad.
In addition, she serves as the coordinator for NSU Athletics' orthotics system and over-the-counter medication system. Gatens is M1 Graston Technique certified, FMS-Level 1 certified, and a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner.
Prior to NSU, Gatens served as the Co-Head Athletic Trainer at Hollywood Hills High School in Hollywood, Florida.
Gatens graduated in 2004 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor's degree in athletic training then went on to complete her Master's degree in Exercise & Sports Science at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
Born and raised in Colorado, Gatens now resides in Fort Lauderdale with her husband Dustin and their twin sons, Miles and Chase, and daughter Lily.
