FORT LAUDERDALE – Christopher Carlin was named Nova Southeastern University head men's golf coach in August, 2016. Carlin joins the NSU staff after a successful four-year run as the assistant coach at Barry University.

"After a very competitive search, it became clear that Chris Carlin is the right person to be the next leader of our men's golf program," Mominey said. "His experience speaks for itself and what the committee and I really admire is his obvious passion and clear vision of what a championship program is and should be. His local ties in the community and familiarity with the conference and DII is also affirmation that Chris will have every opportunity to be successful very quickly. I look forward to Chris coming aboard and continuing the great tradition and success of our men's golf team."

Carlin spent the past four years as the assistant coach for both Barry's men's and women's golf programs. In 2015-16, he assisted in guiding the Buccaneer men's and women's teams to four combined tournament wins, five combined individual wins and helped mentor and coach five PING All-South Region and five All-America award winners. The women's team finished the year ranked No. 2 in the Golfstat national poll and advanced to the regional championship, while the men's team advanced to the regional tournament and qualified for the NCAA National Championship for the 10th consecutive year.

"Being from South Florida, I feel so blessed that I have the opportunity to stay in my hometown and coach," Carlin said. "I am very thankful to Mike Mominey for this opportunity and I'm excited to start this new chapter in my career as the Sharks men's golf head coach. Everyone at NSU was so welcoming through the interview process and I am very happy to be a part of NSU and associated with such great faculty and staff. To become a head coach has been an aspiration of mine for several years and now to become the head men's golf coach at Nova Southeastern just makes it that much better!"

In his four seasons as the Barry men's and women's assistant, Carlin has helped mentor and guide 18 All-American, 12 Scholar All-American golfers as well as one Phil Mickelson National Freshman of the Year (Adam Svensson, 2013), one Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year (Svensson, 2014) and one individual national champion (Nancy Vergara, 2013). He also helped coach the men's golf team to back-to-back NCAA Division II titles (2013, 2014) and consecutive Sunshine State Conference titles during the same span. On the women's side, Carlin helped lead the women's team to a national runner-up finish at the 2014 NCAA DII championships and the 2015 SSC team and individual titles.

Prior to Barry, Carlin spent two seasons as the assistant coach at American Heritage High School for both the boys and girls teams. During that time, both won back-to-back district and regional titles and he coached consecutive Florida High School State Boys Individual champions. In 2011, both his boys and girls teams finished as the Florida High School State Runners-up and in 2012, guided the boys' team to the Florida High School State Championship title.

As a student-athlete, Carlin spent his four-year collegiate career at Barry University. While competing for the Buccaneers, he played in three national championship tournaments, was a two-time All-SSC selection, a First-Team PING All-American and All-Region selection and a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar. In 2010, he was named Barry University's Male Athlete of the Year and ranked as high as ninth in the Division II Golfstat individual rankings. Carlin finished his collegiate career with a 73.62 career scoring average, ranks second in Barry program history with 49 par-or-better rounds and never missed a single tournament his entire career.

Carlin received his bachelor's degree in sport management, with an emphasis in the golf industry and a minor in business from Barry in 2011. He resides in Plantation, Fla.
