Just months removed from wrapping up his successful playing career as a Shark, former All-American Finlay Mason rejoined the Nova Southeastern men's golf program, this time as the new assistant coach, after officially accepting the job on Aug. 18, 2019.
"It's going to be very exciting to help give back to a program that's done so much for me," said Mason. "Now from a different position, I'm excited to keep building on the program's successes. To play for such a great program, and now to have the chance to help coach the team, I'm very thankful for the opportunity coach (Joey) Marino and the entire NSU athletics department has given me."
A fixture in the NSU lineup from 2016-19, Mason racked up a combined 14 Top-20 finishes, including five Top-10's, throughout his notable career. His efforts propelled the Sharks to three NCAA Super Regional appearances during that stint, highlighted by an All-American campaign as a junior, when he capped the season as the nation's No. 24 player.
"Finlay has always been very dedicated to the NSU program," said head coach Joey Marino. "Being a former player, he was excited with the opportunity presented to continue his Shark career on the coaching side. His familiarity with the current players sets up for a seamless transition being that he has just recently graduated. With six newcomers joining the program, it is a perfect time to have someone like Finlay involved. He knows the winning tradition that comes with NSU golf and can pass along that knowledge to the new guys."
