Katrina DeKrey was announced as a member of the Nova Southeastern coaching staff on Nov. 7, 2017 by track and field head coach Bryan Hagopian. She is entering her third year as the sprints and hurdles coach for the Sharks. DeKrey oversees the training and recruiting for all sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and multi-event athletes.
Joining the staff as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season, DeKrey came to the Sharks following a three-year stint at Florida International (FIU) in Miami, where she was a. graduate assistant for the Panthers’ cross country and track and field teams. During her tenure at FIU, DeKrey coached four NCAA national qualifiers and five school record holders in multi-events, as well as jumps. She made her first break into coaching as a volunteer cross country coach at Buchholz High School in Gainesville, going on to serve as a volunteer coach at her alma mater, the University of Florida – later taking on a volunteer hurdles coach position at Pine Crest High School in Fort Lauderdale.
Prior to entering the coaching world, DeKrey competed in the 100m hurdles at the University of Florida in her hometown of Gainesville. She was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll awardee and earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology from UF in 2014, going on to garner her Master’s degree at FIU in Hospitality and Tourism Management (2017). DeKrey is USA Track and Field Level 1 certified.
