Amber Plaza enters her first season as a graduate assistant for the NSU Softball program.
Prior to joining the NSU coaching staff, Plaza served as the assistant coach for Miami Dade College softball program. She assisted with all facets of the program. Plaza specialized in working with catchers and the Sharks defense.
Starting her coaching career in 2019, Plaza spent four seasons with the Sharks. During her assistant coaching tenure with the Sharks, she helped guide the program to two appearances at the state tournament in 2021 and 2022.
Plaza wrapped up her playing career as a catcher for Florida Gulf Coast University in 2017. During her time at FGCU, she would help lead the Eagles to a third regular season conference championship title in 2016. Plaza suffered a shoulder injury resulting in her missing the first two and a half months of the season. After coming back, she made 10 appearances and 9 starts hitting .333 to end the season.
Prior to her playing career at FGCU, Plaza was a JUCO transfer from Miami Dade College. There, she played a vital role in the Sharks winning back-to-back conference championships in 2014 and 2015. During her time at MDC she earned first team all-conference, and was also a part of the Sharks first berth to the National Championship since 2010.
Plaza earned her Bachelor’s Degree from FGCU in 2017. She graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors as well as being on the All-Academic Team. Plaza is now in the Masters of Sports Science program here at NSU
