Abbie Tepe-Murphy

After a successful playing career with the Sharks, Abbie Tepe-Murphy was named to the NSU women's basketball coaching staff in 2011, and was elevated to the team's assistant coach position in May of 2015.

At the end of her playing career, Tepe was one of only three Sharks to amass over 1,000 points since the team moved to Division II, racking up 1,029 in her four-year career. At that point, she was the program's DII leader in assists (548), steals (254), free throws made (326) and games played (115) and was second in rebounds (483). She graduated second in 3-pointers made (119), and was fifth, in field goals made (292).

In addition, the point guard held the team's all-time season marks in assists (170), also ranking third and fourth in that category (145 and 139, respectively). Her 75 steals in 2007-08 was a record at the time of her graduation, and was just surpassed in 2012-13 by Meixandra Porter's 77. Her 11 assists on Jan. 29, 2011 against Rollins was the best single-game mark until being passed by Jessica Russi in the 2012 season opener.

Tepe was second-team All-SSC in 2010-11, and was named to both the conference's All-Freshman Team and All-Tournament Team in 2007-08.

Since joining the staff following the completion of her playing career, Tepe has helped the Sharks to a 171-76 overall record, three SSC regular season championships, two SSC Tournament championships, and back-to-back-to-back South Region titles, leading to the program's first three appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight, as well as a fourth appearance in 2018-19. Under her tutelage, team members have earned seven All-American honors, seven All-Region honors, and 15 All-Conference nods. Kayla Wright and Jasmine Wilkins were named SSC Player of the Year; Monaye Merritt, Wilkins and Danielle Robinson were SSC Defensive Player of the Year and Robinson was chosen SSC Freshman of the Year. In addition, eight Sharks were named SSC All-Freshman/Newcomer.

Tepe married Edwynne Murphy in October of 2015. The couple lives in Fort Lauderdale with their daughter, Emma.
