Ashley Woods

A newcomer to the Shark program in Aug. 2010, Ashley Woods just finished her first season as an assistant coach at Nova Southeastern.

Woods came into the Sharks programs with three freshman and five sophomores, the perfect environment to teach and grow players with recent potential. She helped lead the Sharks to a 9-18 overall record, 3-13 in the league. They were able to earn back-to-back wins twice this season, first knocking off West Alabama and District of Columbia, before sliding past Alabama-Huntsville and West Georgia later in the year.

Woods comes to NSU after playing professionally for CV Benidorm in Spain. Woods scored 22 points to lead her team to victory and earn most valuable player honors vs. Madrid in the Permanencia finals. She also was named Player of the Week twice.

Prior to playing professionally, Woods had a standout career at the University of Miami from 2004-08. She led the Hurricanes to a 26-6 record in 2008 in her second year as a co-captain. As a red-shirt junior, Woods played in 81 games and appeared in 28 matches. She ranked second on the team with a .266 hitting percentage and ranked third on the team in total blocks. She was named the 2007 Hurricane Invitational MVP after hitting .339 with 26 kills and 10 total blocks in three matches.

Coming out of high school, Woods was named one of the top 70 players overall in the nation in the 2004 recruiting class by prepvolleyball.com. She was regarded as one of the best blockers in the state of Texas coming out of Stony Point HS.

Prior to her time at NSU, Woods served as the Assistant Director of Operations and as a Volleyball Consultant with Athletic Republic. She also held the Assistant Girls Volleyball Coach title at Ransom Everglades High school and was a volleyball coach at All-American Volleyball Camps.

Woods is also completing the final touches on her work for a Masters of Science in Education degree with a focus in Sport Administration from University of Miami.
