RJ Sunahara, one of the most decorated players in Nova Southeastern Men's Basketball history, returns to the program as an assistant coach in 2024.
Sunahara is one of the most accomplished players in the history of Division II Basketball while playing at Nova Southeastern. Sunahara was recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year (2019-20), SSC Defensive Player of the Year (2021-22), SSC Player of the Year (2022-23), D2 CCA South Region Player of the Year (2022-23), Bevo Francis Award (2022-23) and culminated his career as a member of the 2023 NCAA Division II National Championship team for NSU, the first title in program history.
Sunahara is the program's all-time leader in blocks (172) and free throws (342), ranks second in program history in points (1,579) and field goals (594), as well as being sixth all-tme in rebounds (585). Sunahara holds the single season record for blocks (76).
Sunahara played his final collegiate season at the University of Georgia in 2023-24.
