Deanna Rivero joined NSU Athletics as the Manager of Athletic Academic Services in January 2018. Rivero initially joined Nova Southeastern University in August 2017 in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising. She monitors the academic performance of student-athletes and serves as the liaison to coaches, academic advisors, the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), and campus partners. She also serves as Co-Advisor of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior to NSU, Rivero spent two years at the University of Miami in Athletic Academic Services. She facilitated the Freshman Academic Success Transition (FAST) and provided academic support services, specifically for football student-athletes. Additionally, she met weekly with selected student-athletes, monitoring their progress in classes.

Rivero’s involvement in education extends to her earlier experience at Coral Springs Charter School as a middle school language arts teacher. In this role, she modified activities for students with learning disabilities and adapted teaching strategies to meet the individual learning needs of all students. Rivero utilizes many of these learning strategies when assisting student-athletes in weekly meetings, teaching them various ways to be successful in their courses.

Rivero graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education. Additionally, she received her Master’s of Science in Education with a focus on Student Life and Development and a certificate in Enrollment Management. Most recently, she received her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership from NSU. She is a member of The National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women Leaders in College Sports (WLCS). In June 2022, she participated in the NCAA Effective Facilitation Workshop.

Outside of work, Rivero enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching sports, attending concerts, traveling, and spending weekends on the water in Lake Placid, Fla.
