Palm wins program’s first individual SSC title.

RESULTS

ORLANDO, Fla. –
Nova Southeastern women’s cross country runner Alexandria Palm (Jr., Winnebago, Ill.) won the Sunshine State Conference Individual Championship Saturday, Oct. 20 at the UCF Cross Country Complex. The Sharks claimed second place overall at the event.

Palm became the first runner in NSU history to win the individual conference title, breaking the streak of recent dominance by Tampa, who won the team title this year.

“She has done something that no other cross country runner in NSU history has done,” said head coach Bryan Hagopian. “Her teammates, men and women, were so excited for her. The energy from them at this meet was incredible.”

Palm clocked in at a 6K time of 21:51.80. The time surpassed her own school record by 12 seconds. Palm was not in the lead for the majority of the match. Palm stayed steady in second-place until the last mile, when she pushed through to take the lead and clock her career-best time.

Behind Palm was fellow junior Peri Bowman (Virginia Beach, Va.) in 13th place. Bowman finished with a time of 23:52. Rose Howell (So., St. Louis, Mo.) finished third among Sharks, in 24 minutes flat in 16th place.

Brittaney Smash (Jr., Arlngton, Texas) rounded out the Sharks in the top-20 by clocking in at 24:14.90. Just missing out of the top-20 was Jessica Osteen (Sr., North Las Vegas, Nev.) and Aimee Sims (So., St. Anne, Ill.), who finished back-to-back. Osteen clocked in at 24:39.10 while Sims clocked a time of 24:40.60.

The Sharks will now move on to NCAA South Regionals on Nov. 3 in Hunstville, Ala.
