MONTEREY, Calif. – Nova Southeastern men’s golfer
Benjamin Taylor (Jr., Leatherhead, England) won the California State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational Tuesday for the second straight season. He helped the No. 1 ranked NSU men’s golf team claim second overall at the Bayonet Golf Course tournament.
Taylor finished his second round by matching his first-round score of 71. He then shot two-under par in the final round to take the title, shooting a 70 and scoring an overall score of -4 (212). Only seven other golfers shot a 71 or lower in any round of the tournament, a feat Taylor achieved in every round.
The Sharks shot a combined 878 (299-290-289) over the three-round tournament. The Sharks led going into the final round and finished the tournament with the best round. However, host-school CSU-Monterey Bay shot a -6 (282) as a team to catch the Sharks and win the team crown.
Alongside Taylor, the Sharks placed two other golfers in the top-five.
Oscar Lengdèn (So., Helsingborg, Sweden) finished the tournament at an even par (216) and tied for third place. Lengden shot a 72 in the second round and finished the tournament with the best round of any Shark, scoring a three-under par 69.
Ricardo Celia (Jr., Baranquilla, Columbia) tied for fifth place at +2 (218). Celia shot a 70 in the second round and finished play Tuesday with a third-round score of 72.
Mitch Farrer (Jr., West Sussex, England) finished the tournament at +16 (232). The junior shot a 77 in the second round and a 78 in the third.
Ian Facey (So., Miami, Fla.) rounded out all Sharks with a score of +22 (238). The reigning Guy Harvey Invitational winner shot a 77 in the second round and an 84 in the final round.
The Sharks will wrap their fall season at the McDonough Cup in Orlando, Fla., beginning Oct. 29.
