Cammisa and Celia Perform Well in 2012 Copa Los Andes

67th annual event to be hosted in Venezuela at the Lagunita Country Club.

VENEZUELA – Nova Southeastern men’s and women’s golfers, Ricardo Celia (Jr., Barranquilla, Columbia) and Liliana Cammisa (So., Alta Gracia, Cordoba, Argentina) recently represent their respective countries in the 67th annual Copa Los Andes, South American Andes Cup tournament at the Par-72 Lagunita Country Club Wednesday, Nov. 21-24.

With Argentina capturing the most women’s titles in tournament’s history, Cammisa and her Argentinian teammates dominated the nine team field in eight rounds over four days, capturing a perfect 16 of 16 points and their 28th Andes Cup, reclaiming the title from last years champion, Columbia.

Cammisa battled amongst some of the best South American golfers, including NSU Alumni and 2007 NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Maria Garcia Austt, who was a member of the Sharks first National Championship team in 2009.

Each of the four morning rounds Cammisa and pair’s teammate Victoria Villanueva competed against two other teams, defeating six, tying one and dropping one on the final day to Uruguay. Commisa only played one head-to-head round on the third day of competition but defeated both of her opponents, 2 to 1.

On the third day, on her first hole of play, Cammisa drained a hole-in-one on a 209-yard Par-3 to add to here incredible and successful week in Venezuela.

Competing in the same tournament, for the men, Celia put together a handful of wins representing his country of Columbia, trying to knock of heavy favored Argentina, who has claimed 35 titles in tournament history.

In the pair’s competition, Celia and his partner Santiago Tobon played even overall, capturing three wins while falling short in three other matches. Celia competed all four days in individual head-to-head play, claiming two victories, two ties but fell short against four others.

Celia and fellow members of team Columbia tied for seventh on the leaderboard, in a field of nine with Chile hoisting the crown, defeating men’s powerhouse Argentina in tiebreaker.
