Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Brickyard Invite

Leading after two rounds, Sharks fall to second after final round.

FINAL RESULTS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind
. – Leading after the first two rounds, the Nova Southeastern University men’s golf team shot a final round of 301 to finish second at the Brickyard Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Sharks carded a two under par three-round score of 862 (275-286-301) on the 7,180 yard, par 72 Brickyard Crossing Golf Course hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
 
Sitting comfortably in first place with a five-stroke lead after two rounds, the top-ranked Sharks struggled in the final round shooting a 13 over par 301 to fall off the tournament lead and finished second overall in the 15-team field.
 
Sunshine State Conference rival and second-ranked Barry maintained steady play over the final round finishing with a three round seven under par 857 (289-278-290) to win the team title. No. 9 Western Washington (292-283-297--872) finished third, while 17th-ranked Cal-State-Monterey Bay (287-290-306--883) finished fourth. Unranked Southwestern Oklahoma finished fifth with a three-round 892 (298-288-306) to round out the top five teams.
 
Individually, Barry’s Berry Jole (70-68-69) made up a five-stroke deficit to take individual medalist honors.
 
For NSU, Benjamin Taylor (Jr., Leatherhead, England) continued to be the Sharks’ leader despite a final round of 75. He finished at eight under par (65-68-75) to finished second overall out of the field of 84 individuals. NSU’s trio of Ricardo Celia (Jr., Barranquilla, Columbia), Mitch Farrer (Jr., West Sussex, England) and Hunter O'Mahony (Fr., Tequesta, Fla.) all finished tied for 11th place at two over par with Celia shooting 73-69-76, Farrer 69-73-76 and O’Mahony 68-76-74. Ian Facey (So., Miami, Fla.) finished with a three-round 237 (80-77-80) to round out the NSU team.
 
The Sharks will return to action on Oct. 8-9 hosting their only home tournament at the Guy Harvey Invitational at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
