TAMPA, Fla. - The Nova Southeastern University men’s and women’s cross country teams had a strong day in the South Florida Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7, with the men capturing second place and the women seventh.
The top team performance of the evening was by the men, running in an 8K, capturing second-place out of nine teams with a total team time of 2:19:16.57 and 75 total points.
Leading the way for the men was
Kevin Meagher (Jr., Mansfield, Mass.), who finished fifth overall out of 71 participants with a crossing time of 26.59.65.
Timo Kilp (Jr., Tallinn, Estonia) finished right behind teammate Meagher in sixth with a finishing time of 27:08.34.
Also adding to the Sharks top-five point scorers was
Jordan Brown (Fr., Gainesville, Fla.), who finished 17th with an ending time of 28:05.09. Following seconds behind in 21st was
Omar Hernandez (So., Rio Pic, Ariz.), who crossed at 28:22.44 and rounding out the five was
Nicholas Hogan (So., Peoria, Ariz.), who finished with a time of 28.41.05.
The men, in competition against Sunshine State Conference teams, took first with Tampa finishing fifth overall and Saint Leo finishing eighth in the nine-team field.
The women, who competed in a 5K, put forth a valiant effort, taking seventh overall against a field of ten teams with a total team time of 1:47:02.41 and collecting 171 total points.
Leading the charge for the second weekend in a row was
Alexandria Palm (So., Winnebago, Ill.), who captured an eighth place finish out of 120 participants with a crossing time of 19:59.32.
Another Shark notable finishing in the top 30 was
Peri Bowman (So., Virginia Beach, Va.), who took 27th overall with a finishing time of 20:53.46.
The remaining five point scorers for NSU were
Rose Howell (So., St. Louis, Mo.), who finished 47th with a time of 21.42.00,
Aimee Sims (So., St. Anne, Ill.), who finished 53rd with a time of 21:49.35 and lastly,
Brittaney Smash (Fr., Arlington, Texas), who captured 77th with a crossing time of 22:38.28.
The women finished second amongst SSC teams, falling to Tampa who finished first overall and defeating Saint Leo who finished ninth.
The Sharks will have two weeks off before they take to the course again Sept. 29 in Stillwater, Okla., where the will compete in the Cowboy Jamboree.
