#NSU50 Top Moment No. 3: Hansley Hired as Director of Athletics

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. The #NSU50 "Top Moments in NSU Athletics History" continues with the third moment on the list: Nova University hiring Sonny Hansley as first Director of Athletics.
1982

With a basketball team and a mascot, the next step for Nova was to hire a leader to move the program in the right direction. Sonny Hansley was brought in to serve as the Director of Athletics and the head coach of men's basketball during its initial run.

Hansley would go on to be a pioneer and key administrator in the development and growth of the NSU Department of Athletics. Sonny guided the athletic department for over a decade, as it grew from one sport to nine sports.

Sonny eventually served as President of the Florida Sun Conference from 1992-1994, and was named as the NAIA Male Athletic Administrator of the Year in 1992. He led the men's basketball team for six seasons as head coach and was head baseball coach for 12 seasons.

In recognition of his time at Nova University and Nova Southeastern, Hansley was elected to the 2007 inaugural NSU Athletics Hall of Fame class.
