Men's Golf's Gomez Earns Invitation to All-America Golf Classic

Shark senior is only DII player in field this weekend in El Paso

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University men's golfer Santiago Gomez will compete in this weekend's prestigious 2015 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas, as the lone Division II representative in a field of 21 elite college golfers.
 
Gomez (Sr., Armenia, Colombia), the reigning DII National Player of the Year, is among 20 fellow All-Americans from a year ago taking part in the 41st iteration of the event. Each university represented in El Paso will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
 
The competition begins with two rounds Saturday at the El Paso Country Club at 8 a.m. MST (10 a.m. local time). The final round will begin at the same time Sunday, with the presentation of the Lee Trevino Trophy immediately following the event's conclusion.
 
The tournament is stepped in history. Past winners include Tiger Woods, David Duval, Davis Love III, Notah Begay, Ricky Barnes and Matt Kuchar, as well as competitors Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Payne Stewart and John Daly. Classic alumni have combined for nearly 50 major championships by over 25 different professional golfers. The total amount won by past players on the PGA Tour exceeds $1.6 billion and over 600 Tour tournament wins, and over 40 former participants have competed in the Ryder Cup in excess of 100 times.
 
About the Tournament
The 2015 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic will be held November 6-8 at the El Paso Country Club, where the best college golfers in the country will look to etch their name onto the tournament's illustrious history.
 
The Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic is one of the premier college golf tournaments in the country. Some of golf's brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete in the tournament since its inaugural year in 1976.
